How did we get to the Moon?

When President Kennedy challenged the United States to get to the Moon first the Scientist worked hard and long trying to figure out how to get to the Moon, until one of the scientist said “What if we start at the Moon and work our way back?” And that’s exactly how we got to the Moon.

I work with people to build a Business Plans. I tell them to come prepared with their exit strategy, that confuses them. I use the story of the Moon to explain why. If you are serious about business and want to succeed you need to know how long  you will be in the business, when you want to  retire (hate that idea), or turn the business over to a manager or even sell the business.

What does that have to do with Children’s Wealth?

When working with youth, young adults, and older adults we need to know what our exit statagey is. What happens when a friend offers you a drink of Alcohol or Drugs, what  will you do? Will you accept or will you have already planned to say no and walk/run away?  How about let’s break some windows, let’s cut school, lets have sex? It does not matter how old you are when you get into a situation that you do not want to be in, you should have decided on your exit strategy ahead of time.

Your exit strategy should be tied to your own personal Vision Statement. Please take some time and write down what would be important to you for and exit strategy. For kids this is a good time to sit down and talk it over with your parents.

My rant for today!

I have read and heard many times over the years of all the civilizations that wondered how will our children ever make it, with the way the world is today.

I can not think of a more selfish time in history that the parents are allowing our children to become enslaved in debt as we are allowing today.

I  here the young adults and students talking about how it is every one’s responsibility to take care of the people that can not make it on their own, and how that  is taught in the public education. If you sit down and watch the kids shows on Television like Barney I love you you love me together we are family and we are special we can do what ever we want but there is no accountability.

I believe in helping but not enabling people, when it is going to enslave my children and grandchildren. There is nothing wrong with teaching a man to fish, but to continue to give him fish from my storage with nothing expected in return is ridiculous. Especially when I am taking it away from my kids.

If the politicians want to give all of their wealth that’s there business but I say there must be a stop put to them when they are spending our children’s and grand children’s wealth.

It has been a long weekend I hope I made a little sense. I don’t want my children paying for my mistakes and me not standing up for what I believe.

Tea Party in Sacramento California.

I spent the day at the capitol on Thursday April 15, 2010.

I learned alot. some of the things I learned was what the acronym Tea stands for taxed enough already. Thats cool.

I learned that people still care about this country.

I learned that people have lots of different ideas.

I learned that we don’t all have agree on everything just because we were there.

I learned that if we do not stand up and be counted we do not count.

I learned how to ask questions of people who have different ideas than me.

I learned why people would want to be in politics.

I learned how friendly people could be even when they disagree and compete.

I learned people want to be noticed and heard.

It was a great day to be at the capitol in Sacramento. I am glad that I had the oppertunity to be there and learn the lessons. We live in a great country and I for one want to make sure it stays that way.

Why would it be important for a young adult to write a vision statement?

Here are several building block questions to ask yourself when building your vision statement.

1. How will I treat my family and friends?

2. Looking at yourself in the future what type of  person am I going to be? Do people enjoy being around me? Am I a leader?  Am I a follower? Do I follow  through with my plans or actions?

3. How successful will I be? What is my definition of success? Am I rich? Did I get my education? Ultimately what am I?

4. Here is your homework, come up with three more. You may want to get your parents involved once you have completed at least 6.

This is just a sample of questions to ask yourself when putting your vision statement together. Most people in business do not have vision statements they generally have a Mission statement, and even those are normally weak or undefined.

Create power

A vision statement for a person is a living document that is always evolving and growing to something more. It needs to be written and read out loud often to make sure you are heading to your vision. This takes work and effort that most people will ignore. You may even be made fun of for doing a task like this and that is normal.

The people who follow through with a powerful vision statement are the most successful.  A vision statement will keep you on track to reach goals, for some that is a nasty word.

Business Plans for Young Adults

Let’s start with the basics. This plan will look like a day planner.

  • What time will I get out of bed?

Mon    Tue     Wed    Thur    Fri       Sat      Sun

  • What hours will I be in school?
  • What hours will I do homework?
  • What college or trade school do I want to attend?
  • What activities will I take part in? Sports, theater, clubs….?
  • How much time and when will I date/spend time with friends?
  • What are my work hours and how much do I want to make?
  • What time is scheduled for me?
  • What are the grades I want and how will I get there?
  • What is it that I want to be?
  • When will I get there?

Now that we have the questions down, let’s talk about each question.

  • When you are young, sleep is very important to you.  Be sure to get the sleep you need. You can sleep your future away. So be realistic on your times you put down.
  • Even in High School students have different schedules of classes. What is my schedule?
  • It is important that you schedule time for your homework and stick to the schedule. There is always something that will come up and seem important.
  • Deciding now on the college or trade school you want to attend will make a difference in how you answer the questions. You need to study each school and see what the requirements are of the institution. Why do you want to go to there?
  • The school you choose will also want to know what sports or clubs you have been a part of, when looking at your records, schools will look at what other activities you are involved with. They will want to know what community events you participate in. Its not just GPA any more. When you graduate how are you going to be representing the school.
  • It’s not just “how much time will I spend on dates?” but also “Who will I be dating?”. What am I looking for in the person I date and the friends I choose to be around? Make sure these people have the same values that are important to you. You become who you hang out with.
  • If you have a job, which I believe you should to make your own spending money. Be sure to know the hours you will be working. Unless you have your own business, it is hard to get much more than minimum wage. When you work for anyone, always give your best.
  • You need to schedule time for you. With all the things that you have going on you need time for things you enjoy like reading, exercise, hanging out, video games, and texting.
  • To get the grades you need, find out if your family/friends will help if needed or if you need to get a tutor.
  • Have an idea of what you want to become. You can change your mind, but you need to make sure you start off with a clear direction. Talk over your choices with your parents, they have your best interest in mind.
  • You need to decide when you want to reach your goals. It needs to be written down, things a funny way of getting done when they are in writing.

P.s. Start thinking of your Vision Statement
